Going head to head vs a pack of werewolves and avoid loss of life for either side is NEVER a great option, even for a mage. That'll be a hard feat, tailored differently each time depending on the group of players! Keep the levels entertaining, not hopeless. Make the character interesting and powerful enough to be a threat to the pack/sept, but not strong enough to one-shot the players and feel cheated. Mages especially are capped only by the imagination.īasically, with mages as villains, you have to find a balance.
There are plenty of spells listed in the Mage books, but as with all other games in the series, anything is possible when authorized by the GM. It should either be revealed soon after combat, later during the same gaming session, or as a cliff-hanger stopping point for next session ^_^ While Batman is an awesome comic character, it's a rare player that will want their enemies to live and fight another day. While that is a great concept, players might feel cheated if the mage appears again too much later. Ideally, I'd like him to be a recurring bad guy (since the PCs have really dived headfirst into hot water this time) and don't mind killing opponents, though avoiding a TPK is of course ideal. From what i know of Mage The Ascention it would be extremely easy to let the wolves kill him, only to later reveal that they did not, but instead slaughtered a magical replica. The Mage has a whopping 5 spheres of Prime and a few dots in most other spheres, and pretty flexible as a character since I haven't made his character sheet yet. The Werewolves all have access to a special passive gift that allows them to go first in combat at all times (Spirit of the Fray). I'm hoping some Mage players can fill me in on some of the awesome tricks they've used or could employ in exactly this kind of situation. They plan on confronting him in a knock-down drag-out Crinos-form blow-all-your-rage-in-the-first-turn style encounter, and I'm not really sure how I can avoid him getting ripped to shreds. I'm running an old World of Darkness Werewolf game, where the players have made a mortal enemy by betraying an arrogant and powerful Mage character.
